Revise With Confidence

You’ve finished your manuscript, but now you’re not sure if your story is really working or how to make it stronger. Maybe you’re worried about plot holes, pacing that drags, characters that fall flat, or whether your story will connect with readers.

That’s exactly where developmental editing comes in.

As a developmental editor, I provide big-picture feedback on the heart of your novel—structure, plot, pacing, character arcs, and setting—to make sure every element is pulling its weight. My goal isn’t just to help you fix this draft, but to give you the tools and insight to become a stronger writer overall.

With clear guidance and actionable feedback, you’ll move forward with confidence to bring your novel one step closer to publication.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A developmental edit goes beyond a critique or beta read by giving you professional, in-depth feedback on your entire manuscript. While a critique partner or beta reader might point out problems, they usually leave it up to you to figure out the solutions. A developmental edit not only identifies issues with plot, pacing, character arcs, and structure, but also provides clear explanations of why they matter and practical guidance on how to fix them. You’ll receive a comprehensive revision letter that acts as a roadmap, helping you approach revisions with clarity and confidence.

  • I specialize in editing women’s fiction, romance, and contemporary fiction—stories that focus on character development, relationships, and emotional depth. These are the genres I love most, and my experience as both an editor and published author in women’s fiction means I understand what readers and publishers expect. While these are my specialties, I’m also happy to discuss related genres on a case-by-case basis.

  • I am professionally trained in developmental editing through Club Ed, where I received certification in providing in-depth manuscript evaluations. While certification isn’t required to become a developmental editor, I chose to pursue formal training to ensure I could bring proven techniques, structure, and industry standards to my work.

Beyond my training, I’ve worked with many writers in women’s fiction, romance, and contemporary fiction, helping them strengthen their stories, refine their craft, and move closer to publication. Combined with my background as a published women’s fiction author and my degree in mental health counseling, I bring both professional editing expertise and a unique focus on the writing mindset—so my clients gain not just stronger manuscripts but also greater confidence in their writing journey.

  • Finding the right editor is about more than just skills—it’s about partnership. I want us both to feel confident that I understand your vision for your story and that my expertise is the right match for your manuscript. When you inquire about my developmental editing services, I’ll ask you to share your first chapter along with a synopsis or query letter. This gives me a clear picture of your novel’s direction and helps me determine how I can best support you in strengthening your story.

I also encourage you to ask me anything about my background, editing approach, or book coaching process. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, supported, and assured that you’re working with someone who will not only give you professional feedback but also guide and challenge you to bring out the best in your writing.

  • To reserve your spot on my editing calendar, I require a $300 non-refundable deposit. This ensures I can dedicate the time and focus your manuscript deserves. Half of the remaining balance is due when you send me your manuscript, and the final payment is required before you receive your completed developmental edit. This structure protects your investment while also allowing me to give your project the attention it needs from start to finish.

  • For a standard-length manuscript (around 70,000–90,000 words), a manuscript evaluation is typically completed within 3 weeks, while a full developmental edit takes about 5 weeks. This timeline allows me to give your novel the careful, detailed attention it deserves so you receive thorough, actionable feedback.

If your manuscript is shorter, longer, or especially complex, I’ll provide a personalized turnaround estimate when you inquire about my editing services. My goal is always to balance timeliness with the in-depth feedback you need to confidently move forward in revision.
